Bike Ride in Manhattan

Wir sind zurück in NYC und leihen uns für 12$ am Tag ein City Bike. Das Konzept ist ziemlich beeindruckend. Insgesamt sind 12.000 City Bikes in der ganzen Stadt verteilt und es gibt 750 Stationen, an denen die Bikes entliehen und zurückgegeben werden können. Einziges Manko: alle 30 Minuten muss das Bike für ein bis zwei Minuten wieder in eine Station und kann dann wieder entnommen werden. Wir radeln bei 30 Grad Celsius durch den Central Park und fahren dann auf einem Radweg an der Westseite von Manhattan runter bis zur High Line, einer 2,33 Kilometer langen ehemaligen Güterzugtrasse, die von 2006 bis 2019 zu einer Parkanlage umgestaltet wurde. Nach einer kurzen Pause im Starbucks Reverse fahren wir weiter bis zum Battery Park im Süden von Mahattan bevor es dann an der Brooklyn Bridge vorbei wieder zurück zum Ausgangspunkt in der Nähe vom Times Square geht. Die Tour ist wirklich empfehlenswert, da sie fast komplett auf Radwegen entlang geht ohne lange Wartezeiten an Ampeln und ohne Autos.

We’re back in NYC borrowing a city bike for $ 12 a day. The concept is pretty impressive. A total of 12,000 city bikes are spread throughout the city and there are 750 stations where bikes can be rented and returned. The only negative thing is: every 30 minutes the bike has to be returned in a station, but after a couple of minutes it can be taken again and the ride continues. We cycle through Central Park at 30 degrees Celsius and then ride down a bike path on the west side of Manhattan to High Line, a 2.33-kilometer-long former freight train path that was converted into a park from 2006 to 2019. After a short break at Starbucks Reverse, we continue the bike ride to Battery Park in the south of Mahattan and then back along the Brooklyn Bridge to our starting point near Times Square. The tour is truly recommendable, as it is almost completely on bike paths without long waits at traffic lights and without cars.
